Find Joy In Your Movement Again

(while eliminating excess tension, banishing pain, and cultivating a new sense of vitality & strength)

If you're feeling out of touch with your body, struggling with mobility issues and confused where to go next, or if you simply want more flow in your movement, then you're in the right place.

Here's why:

When you reconnect with your body and learn how it really works, you create a life full of possibility.  You can move freely, explore the world around you, and dive into your favorite activities without fear or second-guessing.

But it can be frustrating — and damn time consuming — to sift through all of the conflicting information out there. You can get lost in dozens of tabs with this-or-that new mobility drill, corrective exercise, or complicated sequence.

It’s natural to wonder…

Why is it so complicated in the first place?

Never before in human history have we had so much information about mobility and movement with so little progress to show for it. We’re the only animal on earth that needs reminders of what, when, and how to move.

It seems a little silly when you frame it like that, right?

But truth be told: the odds are stacked against you if you want to move well. Compared with the lives of our evolutionary ancestors, our day-to-day lives aren’t set up to be very “movement friendly.” By and large they look like:

  • Chair-based living

  • Little-to-no time outdoors

  • Constant, low-level stress

  • Repetitive movements put on the body

  • Attention pulled in 14 different directions with an ever-growing “to-do" list

  • Definitely no play or movement for its own sake

So most folks try to cram a day’s worth of movement into an hour of training. No wonder their bodies don’t work well. That’s like going from 0 to 60 in a beat up junker of a car - not that you’re a junker, of course, but I digress…

The problem is that the daily toll taken by your body compounds over time.

It’s not a matter of 1 + 1 = 2. When it comes to movement dysfunction, it’s more like 1 + 1 = 11.

An injury leads to tension…

Which never quite goes away and makes movement feel like a chore…

So the tension builds up…

And more injuries crop up over time…

You get frustrated — then depressed — when you think about what you’ve lost, so you move even less…

Until you wake up a couple of decades later and wonder what the hell happened to you.

When it comes to quality of movement, things quickly go from bad to worse - unless you do something about it.

My very, very brief career in jiu jitsu - shortly before my hip went “ splat .”

My very, very brief career in jiu jitsu - shortly before my hip went “splat.”

I lived it firsthand myself.

Despite what most folks think, I actually had a pretty late start in the movement world - around college actually. I fell in love with Brazilian jiu jistu and would train 5 or 6 days each week.

One night though I suffered a nasty hip injury. Something went pop, and I woke up the next day wracked with pain. I could barely walk and ended up going to the hospital where I went through all sorts of scans before being given painkillers and sent on my way.

Not the most helpful solution.

Afterwards I felt stiff as a board - it was like my body put the brakes on me doing anything that could injure it again. It felt as if my body was punishing me.

And dammit, I wanted to figure it out!

I wanted to get back to training, back to yoga, back to feeling like myself again.

See, when you’re robbed of your ability to move the way you want, it changes you. You become a lesser version of yourself, and your world starts to shrink. I was desperate. I just kept thinking, “I’m too young to feel like this.

I felt like I was trying everything under the sun to get better.

I went through so many hoops: corrective exercise, bodywork, silly bands and props. You name it, I tried it. And when things didn't improve after a couple of years, I started to give up on myself. I was self-medicating with cannabis and alcohol…way more than I should have.

I ended up seeing a therapist for a year just to help me cope.

Over years of trial-and-error I was finally able to get better, piecing together elements from a number of totally different approaches.  Gradually I found a combination of things that really worked for me, and what surprised me most is that I felt even more capable than I had before the injury.

It blew me away.

Especially because it felt so...easy.

I kept thinking to myself:

"It can't be this simple."

But I consistently made better and better progress in my mobility, strength, and range of motion. I started writing about what I was exploring, eventually getting my work featured by some of the biggest names in the movement world. It was so incredible to share what I’d learned with folks around the world - and to hear their own success stories using this unique approach.

Whether they were former athletes, new dads, or aging grandmothers people from all kinds of backgrounds would reach out to tell me how drastically their quality of movement — and quality of life — had changed (typically with only half an hour of “work” each day). Clearly we were hitting on something foundational, and when I took a closer look I saw that there were just a handful of practices that were responsible for over 80% of their results.

So I decided to put the “keystone” habits together in a simple-to-follow video series:

The Ecosomatics Foundations

In a nutshell: there are 5 movements that create more range of motion, more strength, more freedom in your body than any other.

(You could even do the first 3 of them and be farther ahead than 95% of people)

Yoga teachers tell me these exercises have totally changed the way they practice - to the point they don’t call it “yoga” anymore. Personal trainers write in and say they’ve completely thrown out their old “toolbox” and use only these movements to help their clients. And if movement professionals get results like that, you can imagine how impactful it is for everyone else.

After years of stretching, releasing and opening, I still had such limited mobility in certain areas of my body. I figured I’d overstretched from all the yoga, and I felt a little betrayed by my practice.

I have so much more confidence in myself as a yoga teacher and personal trainer now. In just one month’s time, I’ve learned so much...It feels like I’ve discovered the missing pieces in my trainings as a yoga teacher and CPT.

I struggled with a lot before this. I had been in pain for so long that I had become incredibly depressed. I believed that I may never be whole again to do all of the things I love.

All of these areas of my body and mind are getting increasingly better every day! I am able to doing things with my knee and body that I didn’t believe deep down I would be able to do again.

My confidence is growing every day! I’M NOT BROKEN!

After patient visits with many orthopedic doctors, working with a number of therapists, and attending numerous clinics, workshops, and certifications to help me figure out my stuff, I had only made limited progress...Chandler was a breath of fresh air. I really enjoyed learning from him.

Expectations? He’ll more than likely exceed them all: the ones you have and those you don’t even know you had until you start peeling back the layers.

I have never been able to sit on my ankles. I mean, I couldn’t even squat down with my butt a foot away from my ankles without being in extreme pain.

My right ankle and hip have always been wonky, and years of soccer didn’t help. I knew some of my lower back issues had to be related to that.

I started implementing just a few of the exercises for a very short time every day. And, TADA! I never thought I would see this day, and here it is in about 7 days!

I’m a long time yoga practitioner (40 years) and teacher (25 years). Things started to change for me a few years ago when smart people started explaining how just pushing flexibility alone wasn’t really a healthy long term plan. I love yoga and still consider myself a yoga practitioner, but there were some missing pieces in what I’d been taught.

Prior to joining Foundations, I felt like I was starting in the middle of things. I needed to back up and start from...well...the foundations of movement.

After working with the Foundations practice for a few weeks with the intention of increasing my movement vocabulary, a cranky shoulder I’d been working with for a long time started to feel much better (Bonus!).

The practice contained movements that allowed me to see clearly what was going on so I could move better AND gave me a way to help sooth the crankiness. What I love most about this work is that it continues to unfold and give me more the longer I work with it. Having a happy shoulder is great but the vocabulary of Foundations allows me to play with my yoga practice in new ways as well. I incorporate pieces of the Foundation practice into my life every day.

Chandler is an amazing resource for all aspects of movement from motivation, to self-talk, to movement skills. What Foundations gives to me is a vocabulary to begin to answer my own questions and to develop new questions to play with. Chandler provides a great playground and plenty of help if you need it...even if it’s just to ask you another question.

I have noticed many positive, and significant, improvements in my body overall.

The improvement I’ve made in three months has been quite profound. My body is definitely communicating and working better overall as a unit, and the independent limbs/joints and other body parts are definitely working better independently on their own, too. I have significantly less aches and pains now, and have a lot more range of motion in all my joints.

I’ve never experienced such a transformation in all my life in such a short period of time.

As a former competitive athlete and college tennis player, and being a very active man that is quickly approaching 50 years of age, I can’t thank you enough! My body now feels like it did when I was a younger man, but in many ways, it feels and works even better than it did when I was in my 20’s and 30’s. I really wish I had access to this knowledge and program when I was playing tennis - I’m very confident I would have performed better overall on a regular basis, and also had a lot less injuries.

But, you know what’s really neat about all this movement stuff? It’s truly a great time - it is a lot of fun, and the exploration is really cool! From somebody who doesn’t like to be in a gym setting anymore, this has been a breath of fresh air, and the results have far exceeded my expectations, and the results have far exceeded any other workout or exercise program I’ve ever encountered.

What works? Pretty much all of it.

I love that you have shown me that I can improve on things like my balance that I thought were genetically carved in stone. I love that you have made me more aware of my central nervous systems’ response to my body’s movements so that I can learn to execute these movements more fully and as nature intended.

I don’t know how anyone who has had major joint surgery recovers normal function with just routine physical therapy.

You are worth your weight in gold.

I had several breakthroughs and insight as you well know. I discovered that a lot of my discomfort was due to protection of injured areas and my mind telling my body to protect itself.

You make this process unique. You come at things with a different mindset - not a typical trainer You have more of a whole person (body/mind/spirit) approach.

I’m not sure that you can make this process any more valuable.

So Foundations came along. I was feeling lost at this time with where I was going with my
movement practice. I thought it could give me some structure to fall back on and it seemed to be for someone like me who was just starting out. The price was good even though the Canadian dollar is pathetic against the USD.

The structure has helped. I feel great afterwards. I’m listening to my body on that and any chance I have to honour and respect my body is an uber win for me.
